Moving Into Your Apartment: 6 Tips You Won’t Want to Forget

When moving into your apartment, make sure you pack the essentials and measure your large furniture.

Moving into a new home is one of the most common experiences people can have in common, but it is also one of the most stressful experiences. This can be inevitable, with many factors to consider as you pack your belongings and move them to your new residence. However, learning from others who have done it before can help you prepare for your next move. Experienced movers recommend the following tips when moving into your apartment so you can easily tackle this challenging task.

Measure Your Furniture

You don’t want to arrive at your new apartment only to find that your beloved couch or desk won’t fit through the doorway. To avoid this scenario, measure your oversized furniture pieces and the areas you need to fit them through. You may find the right angle that lets you squeeze it through the door or be able to determine which detachable parts must be removed for an easier fit. If a piece is too large, you can decide what you want to do with it so you don’t arrive at your new home with the furniture you can’t use.

Turn On the Utilities

While all apartments differ in which utilities residents are responsible for, you will likely need to set up one or more of the following utilities: electricity, gas, cable, and Internet. First, a couple of weeks before moving into your apartment, check with your new property manager to see if the building has preferred providers. Call those providers to set up your utility accounts and set the turn-on date for your move-in day.

Determine Potential Storage or Donations

If you are moving into a slightly smaller apartment or moving into a new apartment with another person, you may have excess furniture or appliances. Decluttering will ensure your new apartment isn’t overfilled with extra furniture or items you don’t need. You can also decide which items you want to sell or donate. Moving into a new apartment gives you a chance for a clean slate, with a new home free from old clutter and mess.

Do You Have Enough Furniture?

If you are moving into a bigger apartment, visualize how your current furniture will fit into your new place. Is there room for more? What pieces would make your life easier while expressing your unique style? You now have a chance to spread your design wings and add the pieces you’ve wanted for your home.

Find a Pet Sitter

If you are moving with pets, this can make the process even more stressful. To make the moving process easier, find your pets a sitter they are comfortable with to watch them during your initial move-in. This lets you focus on cleaning and organizing your new apartment while your pet can enjoy a few days away until they move into their new home.

Pack These Commonly Forgotten Items

In the rush of moving day, it can be easy to forget items left in your previous apartment’s storage or in small nooks and crannies. Other commonly overlooked essential items for your new place include medicine chest items, shower curtains, bathroom toiletries, chargers, and clothes hangers. Make sure you have these items within easy reach on move-in day so you can settle into your new Beechtree Apartments home without searching for the essentials.
