March 9: Spring Defeats Winter Hike

At the Ward Farm Recreation and Nature Park, outdoor enthusiasts can discover nature as it reawakens from its winter slumber. This hike wall takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and costs $8 for non-members. It will be moderately strenuous, so best for ages 6 and up with an adult and some hiking experience. 

March 16: St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hunt 

If you want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as a family, participate in the Leprechaun Hunt at the North Side Trailhead of the American Chestnut Land Trust from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Based on the book “The Leprechaun Story,” families will wander through a “field of shoes,” reading clues to help them find the Pot of Gold. They can also find hand-painted rocks with beautiful 4-leaf clovers! Admission is a $5 minimum donation from each family. 

March 22: Bad Art Night 

One of the best March events in Calvert County for adults 21 and up is a night all about indulging your creativity. For a $7 admission fee for non-members, participants can visit the Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center for unconventional art making. Supplies will be provided, and prizes will be awarded! The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and will feature live music, a cash bar, and food trucks. 

March 23: OtterMania! 

Visit the Calvert Marine Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a fun, family-friendly day at the museum! Included with the cost of admission is this particular exhibit, which is all about the North American river otter. Learning stations, crafts, and activities are provided to make learning fun. Be sure to visit the museum otters Calvert and Chessie! You can also stop by the Corbin Nature Pavilion to learn the otter mascot’s favorite dance, “The Swim.” 

March 23 and 24: Sip and Shop Markets 

Spend a beautiful spring weekend with two crafty March events in Calvert County. First, on March 23, visit the Spring Equinox Market at Mully’s Brewery from 12 to 6 p.m. Admission is free and includes local vendors, artists, authors, food, and craft beers! 

That Sunday, March 24, visit No Thyme to Cook from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to shop for local artisans. Wine, beer, and other seasonal food and beverages will also be available. 

March 24: CCPR Annual Easter Egg Hunt 

Calvert County’s Parks and Recreation will host an Easter egg hunt at Hallowing Point Park! There are specific start times for age groups:

  • Ages 3 and under: 1 p.m. 
  • Ages 4-5: 1:30 p.m.
  • Ages 6-8: 2 p.m. 
  • Ages 9-12: 2:30 p.m.

Hunts start promptly, and all children (except for the 3 and under group) must be able to participate independently. Remember to bring your basket to collect your eggs and bring a camera to take photos with the Easter Bunny! Food trucks, merchandise, games, and activities will be here to enjoy.
