How to Host Friends and Family in Your Apartment

Clean your space and prepare delicious snacks when you host friends and family in your apartment.

When you have your own apartment, hosting your friends and family is one of the many activities you can enjoy. While some people may believe that hosting others is difficult in an apartment, the truth is that it can be pretty easy when you know how to take advantage of your space. If you don’t have the space for a guest room, you can still find ways to host friends and family in your Beechtree apartment home while helping them feel comfortable and welcome.

Tidy Up

It’s always a great idea to tidy up before you expect guests to stay over. The first step is to declutter and clean your apartment, especially in shared areas like the living room, bathroom, and kitchen. Throw out any old mail, clothes, or shoes littering the space, wipe down all surfaces, and vacuum the floor

Clear Some Space

Preparing to host friends and family in your apartment is a great time to rearrange furniture to make more space for entertaining and sleeping. For example, if you have a pull-out sofa, you will want to move your coffee table towards the wall so you can open up your sofa and create a guest bed. Make sure there are a few empty hangers in the nearest closet for your guest’s clothes, and add some extra space in the bathroom for toiletries and personal care products.

Guest Beds

A close friend may be okay with sleeping on your couch, but if you can create a better option for your guests, they will greatly appreciate the comfort you provide. Air mattresses are a great alternative to guest beds and are easy to store when you’re not using them. No matter where your guests sleep, provide clean sheets, cozy blankets, and pillows to help them sleep soundly.

Make Your Apartment Sleep-Friendly

While your guests may not be staying in a hotel, you can still offer them delightful comfort and luxury. Position the air mattress or couch near a light source, like a lamp or light switch, so that they can control their lighting. Offer your overnight guests a white noise machine, a fan, an eye mask, or earplugs to help them design their best sleep experience. If you want to offer additional privacy, use a temporary room divider that can be put away during the day.

Stock the Bathroom

As you prepare to host friends and family in your apartment, make sure they have everything they might need in the bathroom. This includes travel-sized toiletries, a spare toothbrush, clean and folded towels and washcloths, and maybe even a bathrobe or slippers!

Buy Food and Snacks

While you may be eating out for most of your meals, make sure you have some snacks and at-home meals on hand. Stock up on breakfast items like yogurt, granola, bagels, cream cheese, and fruit and pastries. Fill up your fridge with various drink options, and make sure you have tea or coffee available in the morning.

Give Up Your Room

If you are preparing to host a couple or older family members or have a different schedule from your guests, consider offering your guests your bedroom during their stay. This can be a gracious way to give your guests more space and let them enjoy their stay with you.
