Tips for Healthy Apartment Living

There are still things that you can do to stay safe in crowded apartment buildings, just follow these tips for healthy apartment living.

If there is one thing that the COVID pandemic has highlighted for many people it is how often we come into contact with potential germ and disease vectors. As we move into winter, we now have to worry about the continued issue of COVID, as well as the seasonal issue of colds and flues.  The most common advice for preventing disease exposure is to stay home, but when you live in an apartment, parts of your home are also community centers. There are still things that you can do to stay safe in crowded apartment buildings, just follow these tips for healthy apartment living.

Use No-Contact Options

There are many options for limiting your contact with other people and still completing the necessary tasks in life. For starters, find out how to pay your rent online, so that you don’t have to interact with someone or use common spaces to deliver a rent check in person. Next, find out if there is a way to put in maintenance requests online or call them in on the phone, rather than heading to the office. If the request can wait, let it go for a while. Finally, take advantage of delivery options, including food delivery and groceries.

Clean And Disinfect Your Space

Make sure that you are using the best practices when it comes to sanitation and health. Carry hand sanitizer with you and take time to wash your hands with soap and water every time you come home and before you eat or drink anything. Make sure your kids are doing this too. You should also up your cleaning game and make sure you are disinfecting your living space as much as you can. Finally, remember to disinfect your phone routinely as well.

Use Care in Public Spaces

Apartment living means that a lot of your space is actually community space, including entries, elevators, common rooms, and any amenities, like gyms and swimming pools. Take extra care not to touch too many things and to wear your mask as you move through these areas, including the garbage disposal or mailroom areas. If possible, wear gloves or use kleenex to protect your skin from anything you do have to touch. If you can, choose the stairs instead of the elevator, which is often cramped and has poor circulation. Finally, skip any resident events, if there are any happening. Now is not the time to be socializing more than necessary and exposing yourself to even more potential for contamination.
