Moving Day Tips

We all end up moving at some point, though, so thankfully there are plenty of good resources out there. Here at Beechtree Apartments, we want to be one of those resources so your big day is as easy as possible.

On moving day, you’ll be filled with a mix of excitement and stress. In the back of your head, you’ll know that once you settle in, it will be a fresh new chapter of your life and bring all kinds of opportunities. On the other hand, getting everything packed, organized, and moved can be a difficult endeavor! We all end up moving at some point, though, so thankfully there are plenty of good resources out there. Here at Beechtree Apartments, we want to be one of those resources so your big day is as easy as possible. Here are some of the moving day tips we’ve learned over the years.

Cut Back on Clutter

Before moving, you need to do some prep work. This includes packing items you know you won’t need, like off-season clothing or books that you’ve already read. It also means getting rid of any clutter that you don’t want to bring with you. A few trips to the donation bin can save you a lot of stress when it comes to your moving day.

Schedule Utilities

When you know what day you’re going to be moving on, make sure you let utility providers know. Cut off your old electricity, water, gas, or heat, and make sure any necessary services are scheduled to be switched to the new address. Do this ahead of time and keep records of your requests just in case anything happens.

Pack Your Essentials

Your moving day may end up being an eight, even ten-hour endeavor. Bring all of your essentials with you: extra clothes, your toiletries, even having your laptop packed away so you can quickly access it once you’re moved in can be nice. Think of this like your carry-on bag for a flight; it should have everything you need to get you through that period of time.

Invest in Packing Supplies

When the stress of moving day hits, you don’t want to be running around looking for a marker so you know what’s in a box. Get everything you need beforehand. This may include packing tape, a box cutter, extra boxes, garbage bags, markers, and whatever else you think you might need. Other equipment like a furniture dolly can be helpful if you’re moving alone, but if you work with a professional moving service, they should have these for you.

Document Everything

Having a central location for all of your moving documents is key. Keep track of all addresses, rental papers, home purchase papers, moving contracts, utility bills, and anything else that you think you may need. Always better to be safe than sorry.
