Houseplants all require different levels of care. Some can survive in a dark room and some require a calculated amount of sunlight. The same extremes can be shown for water and temperature. These plants can bring light and life into any dwelling, especially apartments that sometimes feel dim and dark. These plants are good for wintertime in apartments for beginners.

Aloe Vera

A common house plant with many remedies, this plant thrives in wintertime with bright light and coarse soil. These plants bloom the most in the cold months.

Moth Orchid

Sold in many stores, this orchid is very popular. It prefers average soil moisture and indirect light.

Corn Plant

This plant does not tolerate drafts or direct sunlight. It does not like to be overwatered or to sit in overly damp soil so be sure it has adequate drainage.

Snake Plant

This plant is one of the easiest to keep alive. It is ideal for beginners as it needs little to no maintenance. Rarely needing to be repotted, it can thrive in direct sunlight or partial shade and prefers dry air.

Cactus

This plant was bound to end up on this list. Cacti are known to store water, making its need to be watered few and far between. It does like direct sunlight.

Jade

This plant ages like a fine wine. It does not like extreme measures- it prefers room temperature, little water, and indirect sunlight.

Dragon Tree

This plant loves direct sunlight. It does not require much watering and it is fairly maintenance-free. It likes dryer soil, so ensure it has adequate drainage.

Sweetheart Plant

This plant stays small, tolerates drafts, but it likes dampened soil at all times. It recovers well if it is left too long.

Fiddle-Leaf Fig

This plant has gained popularity in recent years. It can be mildly tricky. The solid should dry at the top between waterings. It does not prefer bright, direct sunlight. It will grow tall but not overly full.

Rubber Tree

This plant thrives in all lighting conditions. It can grow tall or be pruned back to stay in small areas. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
